Boston is home to many college students and young adults. Brain Injury Lawsuits Involving Head Injury without Loss of Consciousness

There is a common misconception that a person needs to be knocked unconscious to suffer a concussion or even a traumatic brain injury, but this is simply not true. We have seen many Boston personal injury lawsuits involving plaintiffs who suffered traumatic brain injury (TBI), without ever having lost consciousness in an accident.

As discussed in a recent news article from Neurology Advisor, a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) has shown mild traumatic brain injury which was not associated with a loss of consciousness still poses a significant risk for long-term dementia in trauma victims. The study involved patients who were treated by facilities associated with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), all of whom had been diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury. Hadley Motorcycle Riders Sustain Serious Injuries in Car Accident

A motorcycle and car crashed into each other on April 22 in Hadley, causing serious injuries to the riders on the motorcycle.

The riders were a man and a woman, residents of Ware. They were transported to Springfield’s Baystate Medical Center in an ambulance. They were reported as being in critical condition, yet stable.

The crash involved a sedan and happened at about 4:30 p.m. on South Maple Street around the Mountain Farms Mall and Hampshire Mall. Hadley Police, Hadley Fire Department and Amherst Fire Department were all dispatched to the scene of the accident.

Worcester Judges Orders Peter J. Rizzo to Pay Restitution for Leaving the Scene of an Accident

Thirty year old Peter J. Rizzo was in Worcester Superior Court today facing charges of leaving an accident scene where there was property damage.

He was also charged with wrong way driving. The judge allowed him to complete the Brain at Risk Program, which must be completed within the year.

However, Mr. Rizzo must still pay restitution to the injured victim in the amount of $2,300 plus court fees.

Saugus Car Accident Injuries

Saugus police logs released today, report that on Sunday a car accident occurred that resulted in injuries.

A single individual complained of head injuries and was taken to Melrose Wakefield Hospital.

The noon accident happened on Route 1 South,near the Essex Street ramp.

There are no details on the identity of the individuals or cause of the accident.

Flatbed Truck Runs Over Man, Crashes Into Tree (Update)

The Worcester Police Department has revealed the tow truck workers involved in Friday afternoon’s accident are Pipo’s Tow Company proprietor, a man in his thirties, and his nearly sixty year old employee. They each call Worcester home.

The Department has provided further information on the injuries. The Pipo’s Tow Company employee suffers from broken ribs and maybe a broken area of the shoulder. The young owner of the company suffers from head and torso injuries.

Reports now indicate that first responders discovered one man on the pavement with noticeable and severe head injuries causing blood flow. It is confirmed that the Worcester Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit is now handling the case.

Injury to Female’s Face Caused by Exploding Oxygen Tank

On Friday, in the late evening in Bourne, an oxygen tank exploded causing severe scalding to the female resident’s face. First responders were dispatched to her home on Shore Road. The injuries were grave enough to require a MedFlight, however she was ultimately transported to Providence’s Rhode Island Hospital via ambulance.

Oxygen tanks contain oxygen under pressure. Oxygen tanks can be found in private residences to assist in breathing, and in commercial settings. These devices should be handled with care to prevent dropping or falling which can cause catastrophic injury from explosion. An improper collision, bang or blow to the oxygen tank will kindle the oxygen tank triggering an internal combustion resulting in the eruption. Anyone near the oxygen tank at that point is at risk of burns, exposure to toxic vapors, traumatic head injury, and even death from the force and shooting particulates.
