This is an update of the May 1st post. The victim in the Danvers industrial accident that left one man with critical injuries has been identified as 42-year-old Anthony Lyon. Though Lyon was alive when emergency personnel arrived, he was critically injured and his condition continued to decline while awaiting a medflight. At the time of reaching the Beverly Hospital, Lyon was unresponsive and unconscious, and he succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.

A man was stabbed at the Friends of the Homeless shelter on Worthington Street. The female suspect fled the scene and is being pursued by Springfield police. The victim was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive his injuries which have been described as non-life-threatening.  As of posting, the female suspect had not been apprehended.

On Thursday morning, an 81-year-old man died from injuries he suffered after a tree fell on him in Rowley. The man was helping a neighbor to cut down the tree when it collapsed on him. The accident occurred on Main Street shortly after 11 am. Though he was transported to a Boston hospital, the man did not survive his injuries

Massachusetts police officerA motorcyclist in his 60s suffered severe injuries after colliding with a car on Range Road and was airlifted to Tufts Medical Center in Boston to receive treatment. Semi-conscious when police arrived, the victim complained of back and abdominal pain and a numbness in his legs.

 

The accident occurred around 2:30 pm near 101 Range Road, and the victim was wearing a helmet at the time of the injury. The severity of his injuries is unclear at this time.

A pedestrian crash on Forest street injured two people. Needham DPW workers were filling potholes near the Wellesley line when they were struck by a car. The accident occurred around 1:45 pm. Both workers were transported to local hospitals where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

 

The accident caused traffic delays throughout the area, with parts of Forest Street closed, and the crash remains under police investigation.

A construction worker suffered a severe arm injury and had to be removed from the scaffolding by Springfield firefighters. Firefighters arrived on the scene around 11:30 am to find the man several stories up and brought in machinery to lower him down. He was transported by ambulance to the hospital.

 

The man is in stable condition and his injuries are not life-threatening

January 2017 to March 1, 2018, saw an 11 year high in occupational death for the state of Massachusetts as more and more residents were injured and killed while on the job. According to a new report, construction work remains the most dangerous field, one that accounts for 33% of all job-related deaths. Transportation-related deaths continue to be a large contributor to death rates within the state and a majority of those correlate with seatbelt misuse.

 

While the death toll cannot be marginalized, these numbers are dwarfed by the number of non-fatal injuries and illnesses which reached more than 79,800 recordable incidents.

A man in his early 20s was shot Wednesday afternoon on a Washington Street. The shooting occurred near 45 Temple place on a busy stretch of pedestrian walkway. The suspect fled the scene and Boston police were still searching for him at the time of this posting.

 

The victim was transferred to a local hospital by Boston EMS, and his injuries appear to be non-life-threatening.

May is motorcycle safety awareness month. This is a time to encourage riders to take necessary safety precautions and to let motorists know they need to share the road with other vehicles like motorcycles.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) cites several statistics as evidence for the claim that helmets can save lives. Their website asserts that a universal helmet law would be most beneficial to this end. A number of people involved in fatal crashes might have had their lives spared had they been wearing helmets.
