According to a recent news article from the West Virginia Record, a woman slipped and fell inside a Wal-Mart store and is alleging negligence in connection with her premises liability case against the big box retailer.

She said the store management was negligent in allowing the substance to accumulate on the floor in June of 2013. According to a recent news report from CBS Sports, Montreal Canadien’s forward Zack Kassian was in a car accident where he suffered serious injuries. He was sent to the hospital following the accident and is now under the care of the team’s medical staff.

921217_crashed_carWitnesses say Kassian was riding in the car as a passenger, along with a 20-year-old female driver and an 18-year-old passenger, when the accident occurred. One witness took a photograph of the vehicle, which had apparently crashed into a tree.   Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the accident and have said they will release more information when it becomes available. According to a recent news report from the Washington Post, a third grade student in Baltimore suffered a serious head injury after a fall that occurred in his elementary school. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the accident but say he reported becoming ill shortly before he suffered a fractured skull. It is not even known how or why he fell.

School officials reported that they found him lying on the floor and called his mother. They told his mother that they were calling an ambulance, and she went to the school to be with her son.   When she arrived, she found her son sitting in a chair with his head slumped over, and he was non-responsive. Rapper Rick Ross is in the news again with more legal trouble. This time his trouble is not related to criminal charges filed against him for assault and kidnapping involving an alleged pistol whipping incident. According to recent news report form Gossip Extra, Ross and his mother are being sued as co-defendants for an alleged slip and fall injury that occurred in his mother’s Florida home.

In Boston and the surrounding area, Dunkin’ Donuts is a very popular place to get a cup of coffee. Much like Starbucks in the rest the country, it seems like there is a Dunkin’s Donuts on just about every other block. According to a recent news article from CNBC, one woman sued the donutmaker after suffering a serious injury at one of their stores and settled the case for around half a million dollars.

The plaintiff claimed she was carrying a tray of hot coffee when she tripped on a parking spot barrier that was not in its proper place outside the store. Spinal injuries can leave victims with a life filled with rehabilitation and physical therapy, and the victim may never be able to fully recover. According to a recent article from Taunton Gazette, one doctor who had previously worked to create a spinal cord injury fund in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is now asking state legislators to fix a problem with the fund that caused it to run dry.

surgeonsThe fund was meant to get money from traffic fines levied on repeat traffic offenders who were losing their driving licenses. After the bill was signed into law to create and fund the charitable organization, there was a change in the general traffic laws. The change caused people to lose their licenses much earlier in the process, so the funds were not being paid at the right time. As a result of what they are calling a “scrivener’s error,” the spinal injury fund lost $300,000 in funding that had been previously earmarked for it. Continue reading

According to a recent news report form the Worcester Telegram, a 55-year-old proprietor of his family-owned fruit stand in Paxton succumbed to injuries suffered earlier in September in a fall accident.

pumpkin-patch-1562467Witnesses say deceased man and one of his employees were unloading a huge bin of pumpkins they had taken to the stand by truck when the accident occurred. The men were standing on either side of the trailer trying to move when the man fell about four feet to the ground and landed on his head. A family member who was there when the tragic accident occurred had worked in the medical field and knew when victim was mumbling and said he felt like he was going to vomit that he had suffered a brain injury. By the time paramedics got him into an ambulance, he had fallen into a coma. The following day, doctors determined victim was brain dead and notified the family. Continue reading

According to a news release from the Massachusetts State Police (MSP), a veteran trooper was recently injured when his shotgun accidentally discharged. An MSP spokesperson said the trooper, who was assigned to the South Boston Barracks, was transferring a department issued shotgun from his old patrol cruiser to his newly issued cruiser.

He was alone at the time of the accident. The accident occurred at the Massachusetts State Police Emergency Vehicle Operations Center. According to a recent feature from Time, a new report has found a connection between traumatic brain injury (TBI) and energy drinks in teens. The report writers surveyed teen brain injury victims to see if they had reported drinking large amounts of energy drinks in their respective daily lives prior to suffering the TBI. They found an alarmingly high number of victims had been drinking the energy drinks.

redbullAs a control, they also asked teens of the same age who had not suffered a traumatic brain injury and the percentage of teens who had not consumed energy drinks was considerably and significantly lower. In trying to prove causation, there has been difficulty finding why chemically and biologically this would be occurring, but the survey results clearly indicate some level of relationship.
