One Dead, Two Hurt in Athol CrashInjury accidents are an unfortunate fact of life across our city.  With a population of more than 600,000 residents along with thousands more visitors, streets and highways in and around the Boston area are congested with all types of traffic on a daily basis.  This keeps the Boston Police Department very busy responding to a variety of injury accidents involving both motor vehicles and pedestrians.

At around 4:45 am on June 22nd, Boston Police received word of an injury accident involving multiple vehicles which had just taken place at 875 Massachusetts Avenue.  Injuries were reported in this crash and police requested that medical personnel respond to the scene to treat the injured victims.  The injuries sustained are not believed to be life-threatening at this time.  Police are still investigating the details of this accident and have not publicly released a cause of the collision or or the identities of the drivers.

Cape Cod Mall, Hyannis Car CrashA crash involving several vehicles and injuries was reported to the Boston Police Department on Friday just prior to 4:00 pm.  Burt Street was the site of this accident.  Officer Benny Lee with the BPD was assigned to work this crash site.  Officer Lee confirmed in his report that there were injuries suffered in the crash.  On the scene, Officer Lee requested an ambulance to respond in order to assess and treat the injured victims.

Boston Police have opened a file on this accident under complaint number 182048557.  A crash investigation was conducted as Officer Lee spoke to the drivers and took down their recorded statements.  We are still awaiting word on the exact nature of the injuries sustained as well as the cause of the crash.  As with most accidents in the city, motorists experienced temporary traffic headaches while the crash scene was active.

download-2-1Several Boston Police Officers were injured, one seriously, when they tried to arrest a suspect on Wednesday evening.  Officers responded to a call from EMTs who were trying to transport the man to a nearby hospital under a court order, but he had become uncooperative. When they arrived on scene, police were met by a 22 year old man. The man quickly became combative with police as they tried to handcuff.  He punched, kicked and bit the officers before removing a screwdriver and attempting to stab them.

Police were eventually able to subdue the man, however, he bit an officer in the head during the struggle.  Before the fight ended, he also kicked another officer in the chest and pulled out  a second screwdriver.  Boston Police commissioner Williams Evans commended the work of the officers and applauded their restraint in the use of force.

All officer were taken to a nearby hospital.  The officer with serious injuries is expected to be ok, but will take some time to recover.  The suspect was arrested on a variety of assault-related charges.

images-2Boston Police responded to a pedestrian injury accident on Thursday morning.  The accident happened at around 10:00 am at 3035 E. Washington Street.  That is where police received a report that a motor vehicle struck a pedestrian in the roadway.  Boston Police Officer Brendan Wheeler handled the call for help.

While we know that the pedestrian was injured, the extent of the injuries remains unknown at this time.   Neither the driver of the vehicle nor the pedestrian have been identified.  The accident remains currently under further investigation.
