Woman Crashes Into Garage

A woman in Rayham sustained injuries after her speeding vehicle crashed through a  garage.

The nearly 90-year-old woman was hurt this morning because she stepped on the gas with her vehicle in reverse crashing into a garage. She was trying to get out of the way of a pick-up truck that was stationed out front of the garage.

Law enforcement officials were dispatched to a home at 63 Center Street at about 9:30 a.m.

Police and Fire officials saw that she was stuck inside the vehicle. It had become locked into place by one of the bays of the double-vehicle garage. As a result, the 2004 Mercury Sable was damaged quite a bit.

In order to remove the elderly driver, fire fighters took out shelves blocking the driver’s side door. The garage was not attached to the home, which was about 30 feet away, and the home was not the woman’s residence.

Her injuries were treated at Taunton’s Morton Hospital.

Elderly Driver Accident Lawsuits

It is always up to the victim hurt in a car accident to prove that the other party is at fault. This can be shown by demonstrating the driver was careless, reckless, or intentionally harmful while driving. An award is only available when negligence is established. This is even the case when the party at fault is an elderly driver. With an elderly driver there may additional avenues to obtain the evidence to show that he or she was negligent in the accident.

The types of additional evidence include obtaining information about the elderly driver’s physical and mental state at the time of the collision. Elderly driver’s may experience a range of physical and psychological capabilities that factor into a collision. Your Massachusetts personal injury attorney can demand from the driver his or her medical records, police reports, driving records and other valuable evidence for the lawsuit. These records can help establish if there was a condition that the driver was experiencing which affected mobility or higher functioning.
